Social Life In Monte Pego

I’ve never seen anything like it: When I lived in the UK, I hardly knew my neighbours (they were nice people though…) Whenever the weather permitted, we might pass a comment or two across the garden fence. But that was it.

Jude, my wife, is from the Philippines, and she found that aspect of British social life strange. We all lived out our lives INSIDE our houses.

With great temperatures and climate all year - Spain is the place to live a healthier outdoor life. I dread to think what the many years of a cooped-up central-heated life in the UK has done for my lungs!

Well, the Owners of Monte Pego have gone several steps even better….

From the start, I designed my villa with a view to spending more time outside than in.

Check out my Image Galleries on this site to see more examples of what I mean.

My neighbours pop by from time to time. It’s normal, natural, and pleasant.

We don’t live in each others pocket – but we enjoy each others company.

Monte Pego has two bars on the mountain.

La Cova is the one I use, and Jude and I will often get washed and dressed – jump in the car for a breakfast.

Here we are last year with a few friends from Javia and France...

All the staff at La Cova (It’s designed inside like a Spanish Grotto – carved straight into the rock), know me by name as I do them.

It’s relaxed, informal, friendly, and intimate. The builders on the mountain use it as their watering hole too...

It’s also a great place to meet new friends, pick up a little more Spanish, and relax.

After a strong and smooth Cortardo coffee, a light cognac chaser, and half a toasted ‘French stick’ smothered with tomato, ham, and cheese – I’m ready for the day!

Latest News. Sould Singer Madeline Bell (remember Blue Mink and Melting Pot? Rod Stewart...etc...) She's is appearing here at the new club within the next few months...

So Far so good – and I haven’t even left the mountain yet!

Walking up from La Cova, I stroll into the Owner’s Building Company offices. Helpful staff there are on hand to fix any problems, provide local advice and services, etc.

I have my own Mailbox (Buzon) there, so I pick up my mail chat with the staff – and I’m off again…

Jude and I  have become founding members of an exciting new development being built for the residents of the mountain – a new and large “social club”. The plans have been put up around the walls – and it looks darned impressive, dining, music, sport and gym facilities….phew!!

We even have our own Italian Restaurant up at the top of the mountain.

Monte Pego has probably one of the best restaurants in the area – it’s traditional yet modern, very large, fantastic staff and service, incredible Chef – and the food is to die for...

Here's a pic of the entrance - I must look out some pics of us eating inside...

And did I mention Banks?

Yep, along with great service and rates ATM machine...the lot!

I’ll post another article or two in the near future describing the superb social life, restaurants, beaches, views, shopping,,,Pego Village…

Hey! I don’t want to sat glued to this laptop all day (even if I am typing outside by the pool!)
